There is more to making a decision about your floor than the price. Things like color, interior design come into the picture. A floor can make such a difference in a room that it should be something you really think about before getting it done. If you are debating between granite tile flooring for your home and hardwood flooring, here are a couple things your should consider :

  • Where will this floor be?
  • How long do you plan on living in your home – do you want to sell?
  • Do you have kids, pets or plan on having kids or pets?

Color
These questions all should be considered because they can make the biggest difference in a home. When you have narrowed it down to granite tile flooring and hardwood flooring you have to see how much money you would like to spend. This depends on the size of the area you want to put the floor in, granite is one of the most expensive types of floors you can choose – it can last your entire life time and your kids’ lifetime if the person installing it does it right.

Hardwood floors are less expensive and more sensitive than granite tiles. With hardwood flooring, if not maintained, you may need to replace it in a couple years down the road which than can make you think twice if you should have gotten granite instead. Granite is much easier to maintain, and it will not be damaged as easily when it comes to spills. Granite floors can be washed with water and wiped, but if they are not wiped well after a mop, they will not damage like a hardwood floor would. Hardwood floor can be very sensitive to water and any liquids – an open window on a rainy day can lead to a lot of damage to a hardwood floor. If the floor is in a place where there is a lot of potential for liquid spills, i.e. a kitchen, then maybe you can just get granite for your kitchen – not spending so much money on all your house, just where you need to.

The kids and pets answer is simple – children and pets can ruin a nice hardwood floor, be prepared if this is the case for you.

Finally, Color. Granite and hardwood look completely different. See what you think would look best with your house. If you just want to replace a floor, than you should consider what you already have in your house so it will not clash with your furniture.
